]]> Pain and anxiety are among the leading reasons why many people seek a Medical Marijuana Card. But is it effective? A new study released in JAMA (03-18-22), by authors Gilman, J. (et.al), suggests getting a medical marijuana card is potentially a faster track to developing a Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD). The authors observed that card holders experienced no significant improvement as to their level of pain, anxiety, or depressive symptoms. Individuals in the study groups were allowed to choose what marijuana-based products to consume, the potency levels and frequency of use. At the end of the study, many participants displayed a higher incidence and severity of a CUDs. 

This study underscores the need for more valid clinical research into marijuana’s benefits and risks when used as a therapeutic agent.
